There are three of us in the Wiley family in Watford. There’s me, Greg, my wife Louise, our son Euan and our daughter, Eva. There’s also our cat Fundi. You’ll find a bit more information about us below.
One of the things that we’re doing in our spare time is a little family history research. Fortunately, Louise’s sister Kathryn has done the work for Louise’s paternal side of the family and I’m just beginning to search out the Wiley paternal family history. You can see what’s been done by looking at our family tree homepage.
I’m Greg, this is my bit of the Internet; here’s a bit about me…
I was born in Sheffield, South Yorkshire in the UK, where I spent the first 18 years of my life before going to Aberystwyth in Wales to read Computer Science. I now live in Watford, Hertfordshire with my wife Louise, son Euan and cat Fundi. We’ve lived in Watford for 10 years now when I first began working for SCO (formerly Caldera, formerly SCO, formerly Santa Cruz Operation). After nearly 7 years with SCO I moved to THUS (formerly Demon/Scottish Telecom) where I now work as a Sales Engineering Consultant.
My main interest is with music. I play the cornet with Watford Band and the trumpet with a brass ensemble. I also enjoy listening to music and my tastes range from Albinoni to ZZ Top.
Louise and I are both Christians and members of the Methodist Church and I am a local preacher for the Methodist Church. However, we are now worshipping at St. Luke’s Anglican Church in Watford.
If you really feel like pushing the boat out you can find out the sorts of things I’d like as gifts on my wish list.
Here are a few links to some of the social media sites I’m on:
Hello mate! I’m Euan Wiley David and I’m Eva’s big brother. I’m 8 years old and my birthday’s in March, like my Dad, Nanny, Aunty Kathryn and Cousin Jacob.
My favourite colour is green, which is just as well because I’m a big fan of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. My favourite Ninja Turtle is Leonardo. I’m the bestest Ninja fighter and wrestler on the top side.
Hi! My name’s Eva and I’m the latest addition to the Wiley family. I was born on May 11th, 2004 (so I’m now 4 years old) at Watford General Hospital weighing 3.1Kgs (6lbs 13oz).
I can’t do very much at the moment but I’m an expert at sleeping and eating and my mum and dad think I’m wonderful, not least because I let them sleep at night!
You can see some pictures of me in our gallery section.
You may be asking yourselves how Fundi got her name, but I’m going to start with describing how we came to have her in the first place.
I (Greg) have always had a cat when I lived with my parents and have always been fond of cats. By contrast Louise has never had any success with pets at her parents home. So when I began to moot the idea of having a cat Lou said no way! But one evening we were (sadly) watching Animal Hospital on TV when Rolf Harris asked the vet about where the cat he was treating was going to go. The vet revealed that it may have to be put down because there wasn’t sufficient space at the hospital to house it. At that moment Lou decided that we could have a cat!
So off we trotted down to the Harmsworth Animal Hospital in North London to get ourselves a cat. Unfortunately the hospital would only let us have a cat if we’d take at least two, and Louise certainly wasn’t going to entertain that idea! Eventually though they realised that if they didn’t let us take just one then we wouldn’t be taking any.
So how did we arrive at the name Fundi? Again the TV had a part to play. In 1997 Louise and I went on Safari in Kenya and had a fabulous time. At the time we got our cat we had been watching a wildlife programme called Big Cat Diary in which a family of Cheetahs was featured and one of these was was named Fundi by the presenter. We thought this was quite a good name so decided to call our cat Fundi. Sadly that’s the only resemblance she has to a Cheetah as she is extemely lazy and couldn’t outrun a tortoise with its legs missing!
